Jakarta

This may be my final blog until I get back....

I have 3 things I need to say:

1. Happy Birthday Keri! You have made this whole family so proud of you this year and I hope that this birthday is a celebration of new beginnings!

2. Happy Birthday Christa! You are the absolute love of my life. I couldn't imagine spending my time with anyone else. I can't wait to be in your arms once again when i return.

3. Please keep my opportunity with the Jonas Brothers in your thoughts... It would be the ULTIMATE experience and I truly hope they accept my offer.

I'm so sorry I missed your birthdays, ladies, but you know I will make it up to both of you!

Love you all.

Michel

THE JONAS BROTHERS WORLD TOUR
South America

Hello All,

I am writing to you from room 312 in the Four Seasons Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I have been on the Jonas Brothers world tour for 3 days and so far we have been to Lima, Peru & Santiago Chile.
I am having a great time with my new friends Rob Hoffman(photographer) & Marrissa Machado (Hair & Make-up). They are my seat buddies and are taking great care of me. They make sure I make it on planes, buses, and motorcades (It's very difficult, I promise). Being on the inside of the barricade at stadium shows is incredible. It is everything I imagined it to be and much more.

Backstage is luxurious! I share a desk with Hoffman and we have sofas and lounge areas in our "office."
Dinner is gourmet & dessert is fancy. It's nothing like the comfort of Christa & Mom's dessert's though!

Well, I am off to meet up with Hoffman & Machado in the Pres. Suite. (Jonas HQ)

I love you all.
Michel

P.S.- I learned what a true "Quick-Out" was yesterday and I have to tell you, It's a rush..

A Novel Deserving Expedition.

Ladies and Gentlemen.
I have just experienced quite a journey. I don't really know what day we left or when/why we came back from Northern AUS, but I do remember a lot book worthy stories that I encountered along the way.
No. I was not under the influence of anything, except the high you get when you really feel like you're living.

It started with the perfect storm. The heaviest rainfall I have ever seen and of course, we had to drive 3 hours through it! First stop, North Stradbroke Island. We took the auto ferry across the South Pacific to North Straddie and then headed to Cylinders beach. "They call it Cylinders for a reason," they said... Well all I saw was a bunch of choppy, sick ocean... They boys caught a few waves though, and this is where the REAL MISSION started. We hung around at the beach till the sun went down playing Hackie Sac. Our favorite group game. (other than laughing hysterically at Chris Del Moro's "calling people by the wrong name game)

Then we went to the local pub that overlooks the beautiful ocean and shared a few appetizers, laughs, and beers. (Pure Blondes being the beer of choice on this trip).

What happened next was the perfect disaster. I can't explain in detail because I promised my family I would tell them the whole story first thing when I got home so I will keep this brief...

1.We made an attempt to "camp" on the dunes by the waters edge, until the cars sunk to their axles in the wet sand and the tide came rumbling over the tires.

2.We then made an attempt to "camp" in the bush, which left Dave COMPLETELY soaked, Chris & Hilton wet from the waist down, and Nate & I laughing our butts of in nice warm cars. At this point in time I would like to thank Rasta for letting me camp out with the surfboards in the back of the land cruiser.

3. Next attempt, get back on the ferry in 30 knot winds and rough seas.

4. Another long and wet road trip to Noosa Heads.

5. More bad surf

6. A Koala!! and a Python!!

7. Oka (the band) in a hippie filled town hall

8. The Universal Peace Center

Our crew is not much of a "plan ahead" army. We live each moment till it passes and then move on to the next. This is not who I am in my personal life (love to plan ahead)

Love Michel

Hello From My Hammock!

Nate & I spent the first two nights at Rasta's house and then moved on to a motel down the street so we could each have our own spaces to work and relax. I like the motel because it has a sweet hammock to check my emails in.

Today we were shooting at "The Wreck" in Byron Bay and as I was rigging my camera, a rain drop hit my shoulder... and then another one... and another... Luckily we had our rain covers with us because its a pretty long trek back to the car. We threw them on as fast as we could and started the wet run down the beach. I was so worried about my baby!! Everything is ok though.. no damage.

After the boys came in from surfing we hit up one of MANY amazing eateries in Byron. The Shepherds Pie was so incredibly tasty! It's like beef stew, but with lentils (Yes Christa, Lentils!) and other veggies that I always say I don't like. Guess I do now!

Finished off the afternoon with gelato.

PS- I LOVE my job!

EARTHLY SUGGESTION OF THE DAY:
(Worth 10 blog points)
Go to http://www.seashepherd.org/ and check it! ("check it" stolen from TW<3)

ITS POURING AGAIN, Gotta run!

AUSTRALIA

WE HAVE ARRIVED!

G'day mates. Nathan & I landed in Brisbane on Tuesday afternoon and proceeded outside to wait for our shuttle.
As we waited, we noticed a few police officers gathering around a bag left on the curb... They roped off the area and pushed us off to the side for our "safety." We took turns hiding behind each other saying, "If a bomb goes off I will be covered in your entrails!" You've gotta stay sarcastic in those situations.

We then boarded our shuttle and headed for our rental car lot...
2 HOURS LATER we arrived at Ned Kelly's Car Rental, grabbed a Hyundai and headed towards Brunswick Heads, NSW. (Rasta's house)

The Surf has been pumping since we got here. Rastovich & Del Moro are ripping!
Our days are filled with great organic food and lots of philosophic conversation. Oh, and filming!

I have uploaded heaps of photos to my Flickr

PS- I am AMAZED at the natural beauty of Australia so I have done a little research to find out why it is so awe-inspiring. Every blog I post while I am here I will recommend one thing the Aussie's do and suggest that you take action at home to start bringing the beauty back to to America.

SUGGESTION OF THE DAY: Start using reusable bags for all grocery purchases. (I know you probably all know this one.. but I hope that you can all begin to practice it! If you already use them, you just earned 5 blog points!)

Love,
Michel

TRAVEL IS BACK!

Hello all,
I would like to welcome everyone back to my travel writings!
It's a new year and with it, comes new travel.

I am currently working on an amazing surf film, directed by Nathan Apffel.
Shoot Locations are as follows: Hawaii, Mainland Mexico, Todos Santos, Australia. & Indonesia.
So far, we have been to Hawaii, Todos, and Mainland Mex, (Huatulco, Barra, Oaxaca).

WE LEAVE FOR AUSTRALIA TODAY!
I am very excited but very tired because we have been in Mexico for the last 7 days and we don't have much time to prep for our 20 day trip to AUS.

Mexico was a lot of fun. We shot with pro surfer, Hans Hagen.
The first rental car they gave us had a flat tire. And they STILL tried to give it to us! So this was the second rental car that we packed to the gills with gear.

Mornings were spent on the beach in Barra, shooting Hans & Friends, until the winds switched onshore and we normally headed back to the hotel for Juevos Mexicana. Sometimes we would head back to Barra for an afternon session and sometimes we would go shoot natural elements.

One thing I love about Mexico (not many things in total) is that they have a "cradle-to-cradle" policy for glass bottles, which means they RE-USE them. Not RECYCLE. This cuts down on pollution and costs a lot less than Recycling.

And to end the first travel writing of 2009... I give you a work of art!

AUSTRALIA writings coming SOON!
